SERGIO W VALENCIA
Program Director / DOC
Sergio Valencia began his soccer career at the age of nine with the Asociación Deportiva El Tránsito (ADET) Soccer Academy in El Salvador. By age thirteen, he was selected to represent the El Salvador U-15 National Team. At eighteen, Valencia turned professional with ADET, then competing in the Third Division, while also earning selection to the El Salvador U-19 National Team. At nineteen, he was promoted with ADET to the Second Division, and by age twenty-one, he reached the First Division Professional League of El Salvador. During this period, Valencia was selected to represent the El Salvador U-21 National Team in Olympic qualifying for the Barcelona 1992 Games. He also participated in the first UNCAF Tournament in San José, Costa Rica, qualifying for the inaugural USA/CONCACAF Gold Cup. In 1997, Valencia was a member of the El Salvador National Team that competed in the 1998 FIFA World Cup qualifiers for France. His professional playing career spanned 11 years, during which he competed in El Salvador’s First Division with ADET, CD Tiburones, and CD Águila—widely regarded as one of the most prestigious clubs in the country.
Academically, Valencia graduated in Human Resources from Alejandro Dumas High School in El Salvador in 1989. He later studied Journalism at Universidad Tecnológica de El Salvador (UTEC), completing four semesters before fully committing to his professional soccer career. While attending UTEC, he played for the university team and helped secure the 1990 University League Championship.
In 1999, Valencia relocated to the United States. In 2002, he co-founded the New York Soccer Latin Academy (NYSLA) alongside Francisco Guerrero. What began with just 12 youth players has grown into a thriving academy serving over 280 participants. In 2004, Valencia earned his National Coaching License. In 2005, he joined the Economic Opportunity Commission of Nassau County (EOC) as a part-time soccer coach. By 2007, he was promoted to Program Coordinator of the Hempstead EOC Soccer Club, and in 2009, he became Associate Director under the Hempstead Community Action Program (H-CAP). From 2007 to 2012, Valencia was actively involved with FC New York (USL Pro), NYSLA, the New York State Olympic Development Program (ODP) as a scout, Auburndale/Bayside Soccer Club, and International Development Stars as a contracted soccer trainer.
Between 2012 and 2014, Valencia relocated to California, where he worked with Atlante Soccer Academy, Cachorros Soccer Academy, and LA Galaxy Academy clinics and camps. He later returned to New York to continue his work with Auburndale Soccer Club.
In October 2014, the EOC re-contracted Valencia as Club Director of the Hempstead EOC Soccer Club. Simultaneously, he began working as a Soccer Coach with the Long Island Rough Riders in the NYCFC Academy Development League. At the current time Valencia continue as a Hempstead EOC Program Director winning different division Titles.
